The toughest part with dementia is it takes away what means everything to you - your memories.
My nan was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2022. Before she recently went into a home it was incredibly hard on my grandad. 24 hours a day, he was caring for the woman he’s been with for over 50 years, even as she changed in ways he couldn’t understand. It was so upsetting watching him try to hold everything together.
Seeing my nan smiling is amazing, but now everything is so confusing to her, and everyday things are a challenge without help. As hard as it is to see her change, it was just as hard seeing the impact on my Grandad, and Mum, as well an my auntie, and uncle.
I now can see how necessary the right support is. When your family is facing something they can’t fix, having help can genuinely be a lifechanger. That’s why I want to raise money for a charity that supports families living with dementia, because I know how much that support can mean.
I will be overcoming a fear and skydiving in April for this cause - Any amount would be greatly appreciated (and the Access group will double your donation)
